This is known as a multi-disciplinary team.

These are some of the team members who will care for your child.

Medical doctors who look after children with kidney problems are called paediatric nephrologists.

Surgeons who look after kidney and bladder problems in children are called paediatric urologists.

We have a large team of specialist nurses who look after children with different types of kidney problems or receiving different types of treatment.

There are specialist nurses for transplantation, chronic kidney disease, dialysis and nephrotic syndrome

The dietetic service provided to the paediatric renal unit is staffed by 3 specialist renal dietitians and a dietetic assistant,

Social work support to children with chronic kidney disease and their families is provided by two experienced social workers.

Chronic kidney disease is a life-long condition which has complex psychosocial implications for the child and other family members, which requires long term support.

Nottingham Children's Renal Unit has two social workers: Suzanne Batte and Naseema Hakim.

The children's renal team would not function without an efficient team of administrative staff working hard behind the scenes to sort appointments, book clinics, manage senior staff diaries and type letters.

The adminstrative staff include consultant secretaries, a network administration team and an administrator for the senior nurses.

The paediatric renal pharmacist provides advice and guidance on drug prescribing for children with kidney disease.

Paediatric Renal Clinical Psychologists specialise in working with children with chronic kidney disease and their families. We aim to help make sense of the situation and find helpful ways forward. We work alongside medical teams but we are not medical doctors so we do not prescribe medicine or give physical examinations.

The renal youth development worker works with young people with kidney disease to help them achieve their potential.

The play specialist's role is to provide a welcoming, child friendly environment for all patients and visitors attending the ward or the unit.

General play and recreation is provided for children and young people of all ages and abilities, including specialised play programmes for long term patients.

Education is a vital aspect to care and teachers in the hospital school are key members of the multi-disciplinary team.

The teaching staff with particular responsibility for the haemodialysis unit and ward E17 are Craig Matthews (Secondary maths teacher), Karina Williamson (English teacher) Jenny Collins (Primary teacher) and Nicola Richardson (teaching assistant)

Chris Rhodes is the clinical nurse specialist and senior nurse in paediatric urology. She is supported by Gill Young, Caroline Ward, Emma Gamble and Tracy Harding. More about the urology nurses can be found on the urology nurse pages.

Transplant coordinators help prepare kidney patients for a transplant.

The transplant coordinator team is shared between paediatric and adult patients and is based at Nottingham City Hospital.
