Previous Games

Phew, what a scorcher that was in Sheffield for the 2026 Games!  We took a team of 22 children and young people, including 5 for the first time, as well as 8 live donors. 

On the first day, Thursday, after already winning medals in archery and table tennis, we mustered outside the Crucible Theatre then paraded through the Winter Gardens for an Opening Ceremony in the City Hall. 

Friday saw action on the obstacle course and at the 10-pin bowlng, followed by lots of athletics for the juniors in the afternoon.  In the evening, the younger ones enjoyed an evening at Magna Science Park (particularly in the water playground) while the teenagers demonstrated the driving skills their parents are soon to learn about at BattleKarts followed by a nice meal at Zizzi's. 

We won medals in swimming on Saturday morning and, together with some sibling support, fielded a great team at the social 5-aside football in the afternoon. We returned to the centre of Sheffield for very public Donor Run, where we made sure everyone recognised the Kinder Crew team by our traditional green tutus and Robin Hood hats.  We celebrated after with pizzas and some team medals, making a special presentation to Kim who has just retired as a transplant nurse (but hopefully not yet as a Transplant Games volunteer!).

We had an indoor track and field day at the English Institute of Sport but it was nice not to be outside for once.  We saw some great races: at one end of the age range, a 60 m PB of 7.3 seconds to take the boys 15-17 gold medal, and at the other a dramatic overtaking just before the finish for a gold medal in the 5 and unders 25 m! There were plenty of other superb and heroic performances and other medals of all colours won too. 

In total, we brought home 27 medals this year, 13 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze.  But for all our competitors, whether there were tears of frustration for just missing out or just enjoying themselves taking part, we were a great team who showed excellent sportsmaship and supported one another.

Goodbyes were said and we all look forward to meeting old friends and making new ones in Birmingham next year.
