Transplant Games

In 2027 the Transplant Games will be held in Birmingham between Thursday 29 July and Sunday 1 August.  Check back on this page in early 2027 for more information.

The overall event

The Games takes place over 4 full days – from Thursday to Sunday.  There are also some sports that are classed as "social", like football.  There are also social events - some that are organised for all teams and some that we organise ourselves.  

The events are categorised in age bands and start from as young as 4 years old for some events.

Kit

Each competitor for the Nottingham Children's Team, Kinder Crew, will be issued with the following kit:

• 3 polo shirts
• 2 pairs of shorts
• 1 hoodie

You will need to provide any other clothing, footwear and any specialist kit (table tennis bats, badminton/tennis rackets etc). 

Footballers must wear shin pads and suitable footwear for a grass pitch. 

After the event, please launder the kit at home and return it to us at your child's next clinic appointment. 

How much will it cost?

The cost is covered by NUH Charity and usually also supported by Kidney Care UK.  Last year, we received a generous grant from FHP Property, Nottingham, which will continue to support the 2027 Games.. 

To make the event sustainable year on year, we suggest a voluntary contribution for each child and young person.

• For young people of 13 and above, we suggest a voluntary contribution of £50 but we are unable to support any parents or families.
• For children of 12 and under, we suggest a voluntary contribution of £50 towards the cost of your child and one parent but above that we will support. 
• If you wish to bring a second parent and other children, please can we ask for a voluntary contribution of £25 per person per night.  For example, if a second parent and sibling are coming and staying for 4 nights, that would be a total contribution of £250 for the whole family.   
• If there are extended family registered for the Games, the Donor Run and the Gala Dinner, the cost is £60 per person.  As we don't have funding to support extended family, we would be grateful if you can cover the whole of those costs.

We now have a JustGiving page specifically to support the Kinder Crew team.  Please direct all your donations and fundraising through this page.  This helps us see how much money we have raised as a team when we apply to the hospital charity for a grant next year.  

What about young people?

For young people from 13 to 17, we offer the opportunity for them to come unaccompanied by an adult and be part of a group supported by NUH staff and volunteers.  Like previous years, we would plan to have one evening event for all young people 13 and upwards, whether they come by themselves or with parents.

Pizza Party.  We will have a team party for team medals and pizza following the Donor Run on Saturday evening.  Details TBC.

Communication at the Games

We will use the WhatsApp for any news updates during the Games. Please feel free to share photos of your child competing or receiving medals.  It's always encouraging to see what others are up to in different locations.  If you're photographing any other children, please make sure you have permission first.  Generally we leave this group going for a few weeks after the Games for people to share news and photos and we'll then close it down until we're planning next year's Games. 

We like to use these photos to share on social media.  Please let us know if you do not wish your child's photo to appear on social medial or the EMEESY website. 

We will have a separate WhatsApp chat for teenagers.
